An agency that builds.
Ubert was born out of frustration. Not that of a business owner who knows too little about AI, but that of a builder who saw too often how automation projects fell apart over things that had nothing to do with technology: an advisory report without working software underneath, a tool nobody used because nobody had asked for it, or a package that didn’t fit how the company actually works.
We do it the other way round. First we come and take a look on the shop floor, with the people who do the work every day. Then we build something small that runs today, and only when that works do we go further. And if we can’t build something, we’ll tell you. That’s not modesty, it’s arithmetic: half-finished work costs you money and costs us our reputation.
We work with Dutch small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs). Installation companies, wholesalers, hauliers, bookkeeping firms, healthcare organisations. Companies where the managing director still knows how many quotes went out last week, and where nobody has time for a nine-month project without results.
Six things we do not budge on
You don’t get a report with recommendations someone else has to carry out. We build it ourselves. The core report after the core session is there to help you make choices, not to end up in a drawer.
Sometimes the answer is: buy an existing package, or just keep doing this by hand for now. We give that advice even when it costs us work. A client who builds something they didn’t need doesn’t come back.
One process, one department, something that works within weeks. Then expand based on what you see in practice, not on what we had thought up in advance.
Whether you take ownership of the system or use it under a licence is agreed up front and stated in the proposal. Either way: a mainstream stack, documentation included, your data always exportable, and no locks that only we hold the key to.
There isn’t a single savings percentage on this site that we can’t back up, and not one anonymous customer quote. Better an empty space than a pretty number that’s based on nothing.
We take GDPR and the EU AI Act into account while we build: recording the risk class, building in human oversight, data processing agreements on paper. Not as a separate invoice afterwards.
Mike, founder and engineer
Ubert is run by Mike. He is the one who sits at the table during the intro call, walks the floor with your team during the core session and then helps build it himself. No account manager who hands the file on to someone else.
He knows SMEs from the inside. At an installation company with more than 150 employees he was jointly responsible for setting up two new business lines, both of which are now independent companies. Before that he worked as an account manager and served in the Dutch armed forces. That combination explains how we work here: first see how the work really runs, only then build.
He also built platforms for the legal and financial sector: client portals, case management, payment and verification flows. You can see that in how we work here, with close attention to who is allowed to see which data and to processes that still hold up when something goes wrong.
The time it went badly wrong
The biggest mistake I made was at an installation company, during the go-live of their portal. The AI had loaded the wrong brand colours and the wrong logo, and they turned out to belong to a competitor. Try explaining that while everyone is watching.
Fortunately we could laugh about it later. But ever since, I prepare everything in advance, have everything checked twice by a human, and use AI precisely for that checking work.
AI gets things wrong with great conviction. That’s why a human is the last check, not the first.
Why a people-first agency
With Ubert I want to make a statement: you still need people to make AI work for you. In fact, humans are the first sense AI needs in order to function at all.
What I don’t want to become is a production line. I do this because I genuinely enjoy it, and just like a hairdresser, I can see at the end of the day whether someone is happy.

Why not just make it public? Because a CV and scans of certificates are personal data. We keep them out of search engines and prefer to know who is looking at them. That is the same care we take with your data.

If automating brings you too little, we say so. Even after a paid core session. An honest no is cheaper than half a year of building something nobody uses.
Rates are on the site. We only carry out extra work after your written approval. Every invoice has a breakdown per day: who, how many hours, on what.
No account manager who promises and a junior who does the work. Whoever sits at your table builds along too.
What we build is yours, including the source code under the ownership model. You can always export your data. If we stop working together, you take everything with you.

We agree up front what we measure. If the first step delivers nothing, we stop. We say that too when the answer is disappointing.

We work from Bussum for SMEs in the Gooi region, Amsterdam, Utrecht and Almere, and beyond that simply remotely. We always do the core session on your own shop floor: that is the whole point of it. Further afield is fine too; we then charge travel costs and those are in the proposal up front.
