The work that comes back every week
The question is never whether AI can do something, but which piece of work comes back every week, is done by a person, and calls for no judgement.
At manufacturers and their suppliers, that sits at the front of the chain: the enquiry. A drawing or a list comes in, someone digs out what was quoted for a comparable part before, and rebuilds the quote from scratch. If you win a third of your enquiries, a lot of time goes into the ones that bring in nothing. Exactly the sort of work where a system does the groundwork and a person makes the call.
Further along it sits in the paperwork around the order: the same data in three systems, certificates every customer wants in a different format, product codes named differently by every supplier. Then there is language: enquiries and complaints in German, while your administration runs in Dutch. An automation that ignores that falls over on the first German email.
From Bussum or Eindhoven to Enschede: how that works

Where it goes wrong
Five things come back every time. The first three apply anywhere, the fourth to a technical region, and the fifth to a supplier working at a distance.
- No owner. Without someone who has the authority to decide, the project disappears behind the daily workload. By far the most common cause.
- Data that does not add up. The same customer twice, three product codes for one item, dimensions in a free text field. Cleaning that up is dull manual work and often the bulk of the first few weeks.
- A supplier who keeps the door shut. Plenty of ERP and works-order packages in manufacturing have no open API, or only offer one in a more expensive subscription. We check that before building.
- Started in-house and stalled. There is a lot of technical knowledge in Twente, so often someone internally has already written a script. It works, until that person leaves and nobody knows what it does.
- Silence at a distance. If we cannot walk over to your desk, someone on your side has to answer questions and make decisions. Otherwise the build stalls while the bill runs on. That is why we agree one weekly call and one point of contact up front.
